Occasionally we see these colors with the sunrise casting golds and lavenders across the bay. This spot, like many in Eastport, change with the weather. Fog or snow settles, blanketing all in silence, or a bright clear fall sun will sparkle silver across the sea.

Tom and I sailed by these islands off Machias Bay one fall. This rugged peak was home to a couple who summered here, traveling to the mainland for food and water. Having lived aboard boats for seventeen years we felt a mild kinship with their life and marveled at their nerve in choosing this remote spot.
