I don't know what is recommended, but it is not hard to drill and countersink. We did that partly because it feels like a good thing to be able to remove one keelbolt without removing the whole keel, and partly because we thought it would be more straight forward to put the keel under the boat to drill through the keel plank and the keel, instead of having keelbolts cast in the keel and make them match holes in the keel plank. /matti
