Sorry, about those successive empty posts. I must of hit ctrl and/or shift while typing and bloop. In any event, back to subject at hand. Now I read in Philips-Birt; "There are two schools of thought over the arrangement of diagonals; one favors they should all be struck at 45 degrees, and the other that the angles should be adjusted to suit the convenience of fairing." Although, most of what I read about diagonals from other sources like Chappelle, suggest diagonals should be struck so as intersect each section as close to right angles as possible. Harrison Butler in his book "Cruising Designs" favors striking all diagonals at 45 degrees and state's he is in good company with Laurent Giles in doing so. I've also read that planking follows the diagonals pretty closely. Although, I cant see how that would be true if all where struck at 45 degrees. Now Tom, seems to suggest some even further insight into these lines than what I've come across in concerns of performance. In particular, about "water flow along the diagonals" that he mentioned in another post in which I am hoping he would comment further on. Chappelle briefly mentions something about a displacement curve of heeled areas as a valueable insight into performance but that's about it.
