Thanks for the reply Tom. I'm still having some difficulty undestanding your concept of water flow along diagonals. Would that be similar to heeled waterlines, which I do understand? Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like to this amature that you prefer flatish looking diagonals when expanded? On another note, and not that I doubt what your saying for I rather draw a section through well developed diagonals anyday. Ted Brewer in his book, "Understanding Boat Design" states: "Modern computer programs place little or no emphasis on diagonals. The program I use does not even include diagonals in the hull lines or offsets. The boats are designed and faired completely with sections, buttocks, and waterlines. Although I haven't missed the diagonals, they maybe informative on some designs-for example clipper bowed yachts or other boats with deep forefoots." (p.37) Informative, perhaps ? Unfortunantely, he doesn't say in what way.
